Supported Volunteers

At Fresh Minds Education, we create space for supported volunteers, usually young people or young adults who want to make a difference but may need extra encouragement or guidance along the way.

We believe that together, we are better.

Supported volunteering is for young people who may be:

• Bereaved and needing connection and purpose.

• Struggling with mental health, anxiety, or loneliness.

• Finding it difficult to engage in or stay connected with school.

• Looking for a safe, supportive environment to contribute time and skills.

Examples of supported volunteering include:

• School & College Work Placements: usually short placements where students can contribute to projects while learning about charity work.

• Duke of Edinburgh Volunteering: we support young people undertaking their DOE by guiding them through tasks that help the charity and their own development.

• Local Young Volunteers: we welcome young people who want to use their lived experience to bring hope to others.

“When I first came to FME, I felt anxious and alone. Volunteering gave me something to look forward to, and the team made me feel safe and valued. I never thought I’d be able to help others, but now I can see how my story can make a difference.”

Supported Volunteer

Because supported volunteering requires time, supervision, and presence from our small team, opportunities are only offered when we have the capacity to provide the right level of support. Funding for this work is limited, but we remain committed to creating opportunities whenever we can.
